Spiders
No matter where in this country you live, spiders can be a serious problem. Most people don’t realize that there are two distinct types of spiders, the first type of spiders are the web building spiders. These spiders like to spin webs in areas that are avoided by people, but where they might happened upon a nice, juicy, fly. Common places to find web building spiders are in the upper corner of neglected rooms, inside closets, under the eaves of homes and in storage sheds.
While web builders tend to stay in one place to catch their food, hunting spiders prefer to explore while they look for dinner. The kinds, such as brown recluses, leave their burrow at night to look for insects to catch and consume. The most common types of food for hunting spiders are other spiders, crickets, ants, flies cockroaches and moths.
Hunting spiders don’t usually travel very far from the place that they live, whether it be in a burrow, under the couch, under the refrigerator or in the garage. It is not uncommon for these species to find ways in between the walls of your home and spend most of their time there.
Among these two groups you will find various types that are considered poisonous enough to be a danger to small children and pets. Occasionally you will run into a species that can actually harm full grown adults such as Black Widows and Brown Recluses.
This does not lessen the importance of immediate hospitalization following a bite. It is believed that prior to the introduction of anti-venom that approximately 5% of all reported bites resulted in a fatality.
One of the most dangerous of the hunting spiders is the Brown Recluse. This spider is a little larger than a penny. It’s bite is very poisonous and painful and can become itchy after 6 hours. The bite commonly will kill the skin around the bite area.
When it comes to poisonous hunting spiders in the country, the Brown Recluse takes the prize. Their bits, while extremely painful, are also known to kill the skin surrounding the area of the bite. Following being bitten by a Brown Recluse the bite area with swell up and become extremely itchy and irritated.
Once a person realizes what are the possible results of certain types of spider bites, it becomes a little crazy to believe that having some spiders in your home can be a good thing. Some people teach this because they feel that spiders that eat other bugs keep down the numbers of overall pests in your house. While this is true, the bottom line is that shy of termites or scorpions, there are few pests that are worse to have in your home than spiders.
The best way to make your home free of spiders and other insects is through a regular maintenance spray of pesticide chemicals. You can either purchase diluted portions of chemical to spray yourself or you can hire a professional pest control provider.
